WHY I STARTED GO RENT PRO - THE EVOLUTION OF MY VACATION HOME BUSINESS


When I began renting my two vacation rentals in early 2002 I was just like every other newbie vacation rental owner.  I loved my rental homes and the vacations I spent there and I wanted to be able to share that experience and convenience of renting a private home with other families on vacation and also pay some of my mortgages.  Little did I know how much time just taking the reservations and keeping the accounting straight would take.  Sure the property manager looks after the pool, mows the lawn, and arranges cleaning between renters but that is a small part of the business of owning and renting your vacation rental home.  I was amazed just how long it can take preparing rental invoice, keeping your calendars updated to avoid double booking, keeping renter contact information organized, and preparing mailings and information for your renters.  Owning a vacation rental is supposed to be fun not a second job.

As my business grew, I realized I needed a professional intergraded system.  I looked for an existing product that would meet my needs but nothing was just right.  I needed a system that was just for vacation rentals, nothing else, and a system that focused on saving me time and one that did not require a degree in accounting to understand and use.  I also did not want a program that required a manual two inches thick.

So I designed my own program, GoRentPro, a management and accounting program for the vacation property rental industry.  The design of GoRentPro was based on asking myself how can I do the work easier, quicker, more accurately, provide better service to our renters, and have the control I needed to manage my growing rental business.

GoRentPro's first version was realized in late 2002 where it started out as the online calendar on my personal website www.sterlingvacationhomes.com along with a windows based booking and invoicing program.  The calendar worked great, it was linked to my booking and invoicing program so it was automatically updated every time I entered a booking.  The first version of my vacation rental software was easy to use and an enormous time saver, but I wanted more.
